Healthy Smiles Dental Center offers routine dental cleaning as essential maintenance to proper health for your teeth and gums.   A registered dental hygienist will carefully perform your cleaning to encourage advancing and protecting your dental health.

Substances that we target during your cleaning are tartar and plaque.  Plaque is a mixture of saliva, food debris, and living bacteria that produces a sticky substance on the teeth.  As the bacteria thrive on your dental surface, they produce harmful toxins that irritate and erode the gum line.  This inflammation leads to gingivitis and other periodontal diseases.

Tartar is simply plaque that has hardened over time and has now adjoined to your tooth’s surface.  It can develop above or below your gum line and requires specific instruments for it to be removed.

Your hygienist would prefer to know any sensitivities you may have among your teeth before your cleaning commences.

A complete dental exam is required and necessary before beginning any form of initial treatment.  The dental exam plays a vital role in the combined efforts between us and the patient, and we work hard to thoroughly examine your teeth to discover any and all oral discomfort(s) or pain(s) you may have or foresee.

With regular dental check-ups, your hygienist and dentist will guide you through a diagnostic x-ray exam.  This exam will reveal your tooth and root positions, and screen for any signs of bone loss, decay, cysts, or tumors.  Screening for any signs of oral cancer by examining your face, lips, neck, throat, and gums will also be conducted.  Based on The Oral Cancer Foundation - estimates 100 new individuals are diagnosed with mouth cancer each day in the U.S., which is why we have trained staff members that can recognize the common visible symptoms of oral cancer.

Gum disease and tooth decay screening is also included with your routine check-up.  The gums and surrounding bone are examined for periodontal disease, as well as the surface of your teeth.  This also includes the evaluation of any crowns, fillings, or other restorative dental work you have received.

Emergency Dentistry

Emergency dental issues involves the teeth and supporting tissues that is of high importance to be fixed/treated by the relevant professional. Dental emergencies do not always involve pain, although this is a common signal that something needs to be looked at. Pain can originate from the tooth, surrounding tissues or can have the sensation of originating in the teeth but be caused by an independent source (Orofacial pain and Toothache). Depending on the type of pain experienced an experienced clinician can determine the likely cause and can treat the issue as each tissue type gives different messages in a dental emergency.

Many emergencies exist and can range from bacterial/fungal/viral infections to a fractured tooth or dental restoration, each requiring an individual response and treatment that is unique to the situation.  Fractures (dental trauma) can occur anywhere on the tooth or to the surrounding bone, depending on the site and extent of fracture the treatment options will vary. Dental restoration falling out or fracturing can also be considered a dental emergency as these can impact on function in regards to aesthetics, eating and pronunciation and as such should be tended to with the same haste as loss of tooth tissue.

All dental emergencies should be treated under the supervision or guidance of a dental health professional in order to preserve the teeth for as long as possible.

Dental Veneers
Teeth Whiting

Whitening and bleaching teeth has become a very common request and we're suited to provide those requests for our clients.  Our technique is simple and gently lightens the enamel of your within a short amount of time.

We also take great care to make sure the whitening of your teeth will match any of your crowns or fillings, since only natural tooth enamel is capable of being whitened.  We may advise replacement of any restoration work you have received so that they’ll blend with your new, whiter smile.

Everyone’s enamel has a tendency to lose its luster after years of “wear and tear,” so do not hesitate to ask for this common service.

Veneers are a terrific option for reshaping your teeth and smile.  Unlike porcelain crowns, a porcelain veneer does not encapsulate the entire tooth, but merely covers the front of it.  This makes them a great alternative for many different dental conditions and an attractive option for cosmetic dentistry.

Veneers are custom made to cover your teeth perfectly.  Like the crown, the veneer is also created in a dental laboratory from a mold of your teeth.  They are very durable, but are not permanent and may need replacement in the future. Porcelain veneers generally require two dental appointments to complete their installment, as the first visit will be used to make molds of your teeth.  This will involve lightly buffing your teeth’s surfaces into a specific shape that can handle the thickness of a veneer.  Once the mold is taken, we will work with you to select the best shade of white to match your smile.

The second visit is used to adhere the veneers to the surface of your teeth.  Your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and bonding cement will adjoin the veneer to your tooth.  The cement is hardened by applying a special light beam to the area.

Our office will supply you with materials that will discuss caring for your veneers.  Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups will add to the lifetime of your veneers.
